Blinder Case Study: How One Startup Scaled Their Visibility With A Single Video

Who Is Blinder And What Do They Do?

Caley Wilson was a media manager in the sporting industry when he recognised a major privacy problem. There was no easy way to have athletes receive calls from the media, without exchanging personal numbers.

He dug deeper into the problem and discovered it was actually much worse than he thought. Seeking a solution, he decided to team up with Ross McConnell, and together they launched Blinder.

So what is Blinder? Blinder is a web-based system that allows high profile individuals to receive calls on their mobile phones without disclosing their number.

It works by scheduling a call between two people for a certain date and time via the dashboard. The caller will be sent your Blinder phone number, as well as a unique access code for each individual call.

For example, it’s used by PR managers behind Olympic champions to Grammy winners to arrange media phone interviews at set times. This prevents having to give permanent access to private numbers.

With Blinder, personal phone numbers are never shared and all interviews have to be arranged by the PR  manager. Therefore achieving the perfect balance between privacy protection and convenient access.

The Challenge At Hand

Caley and the Blinder team were struggling to effectively present their services and offer to the market. They knew Blinder solved a massive problem for people, but they needed a creative way to demonstrate its impact.

Being one of the pioneers in its category, there was always the possibility of appearing “too technical” or “intimidating” to use.

In fact, some leads felt as if the service would only further complicate their job. Which frustrated both Caley and Ross because they knew how much Blinder would help them.

Here’s what Blinder needed…

A way to quickly explain, educate, and pitch the true benefits of their service to prospects in a scalable way. Ross and Caley couldn’t continue to rely on in-person meetings to spread their message. They needed a way to educate prospects even while they were sleeping.

How We Solved It

Blinder received its first professional 90 second explainer video a few short weeks later. The new video efficiently and entertainingly presented their key offering.

The video focused around the target audience of sporting teams. As well as several other industry examples which made the content engaging and relatable, both to a niche and wider audience.

The Goal Of The Video

Blinder’s goals were clear. They wanted the video to drive more enquiries and leads by catching the attention of PR managers.

The video would allow them to have that “ah-ha” moment. As they watch it and grasp how the service will solve a big day to day problem for them.

The video warms up new prospects, allowing Blinder to scaling their pitch beyond the limited scope of in-person meetings

The video provides a great pitch that warms up new prospects - scaling their pitch beyond the limited scope of in-person meetings. Of course, in-person meetings still play a vital role in their sales process. But this “warming video” means these meetings are less explaining, and more closing.

The Ah-Ha Moment

Caley and the Blinder team have witnessed multiple people have that ‘ah-ha’ moment. Where interested leads have finally grasped what Blinder is about, and how their service will dramatically improve their job or company.
