Narrative Case Study: How Videos Can Be Used To Refine a Company Message

Who Is Narrative And What Do They Do?

Narrative’s founders were frustrated with the status quo of current social media. They felt that users were being unfairly treated by the platforms they supported, so they decided to create their own platform. A space where user content would be valued.

From this disruptive idea Narrative was born. The platform is a “content economy” where creators, moderators, and anyone else who assists in the creation of high quality content is rewarded.

Defying the conventions of established platforms, Narrative is a network governed by the users. Both moderators and the platform’s Tribunal are elected by active members.

The first of its kind, Narrative will be the world’s journal. It’ll provide a subject-orientated network with no middleman, where the power is in the member’s hands.

In many ways, existing social networks have thrived as a direct result of users sharing high quality content. However, in most cases there is no direct reward for producing this content. Narrative solves this problem by rewarding all positive contributors.

​The Challenges They Were Facing

We’ve helped Narrative overcome several challenges through video. As they prepared for their ICO, the Narrative team felt that their marketing assets lacked a key ingredient. Namely, a punchy piece of content that explained their concept clearly.

They had a 60 page white paper which explained the goal and operations of the platform. However, this wasn’t going to be suitable for scaling awareness. It lacked the strength of a shareable and engaging elevator pitch.

Then in mid-2018 the Narrative team were struggling to summarise the key benefits of owning or contributing to a niche in an engaging format. Once again we worked with the team to overcome this issue.

The Solutions

​Intro Video

Four weeks after Narrative first contacted us they received their first professional 90 second video. The new video clearly and engagingly summarised their unique selling proposition.

The video also positions Narrative as the solution to a widespread problem in social media. Therefore establishing the massive opportunity presented by the new platform.

​Niches Video

The second video was designed to effectively explain one of the platform’s vital features - the ability to curate and own a niche.

We produced this video to be distributed on all social media platforms and created a 60 second version specifically for the growing Instagram audience.

The ​Video Goals

“The goal from day one was always product awareness,” said Rosemary.

“We were launching our ICO, so we needed as many people out there to know our name and how we can help them. The video needed to be shareable to drive as much traffic as possible.”

How Did Narrative Use Their Explainer Videos?

“We’ve used our explainer videos on our social media (Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), including a pinned Tweet,” said Rosemary.

“We shared our intro video to our newsletter subscriber list to support pre-ICO sales. It’s the focal point of our newly established YouTube channel.”

“We’ve also used the intro video numerous times when answering live questions in our Telegram channel, as it’s a great quick summary of our complex platform. Shareability was important, because we wanted our stakeholders to be able to easily “spread the word” while preserving our preferred messaging.”

The Results

"The video has enabled us to succinctly communicate our vision for the Narrative, while the Niche Ownership video clearly conveys the benefits of Niche Ownership," said Rosemary.

The intro video has over 10,000 views on YouTube and the niches video has been used to drive traffic to the Narrative website via Instagram ads.
